Jil Sander and Puma are extending their revived partnership with a new installment centered on the leather Speedcat. The racer shoe returns on October 23 alongside a full accompanying fit: a reworked 1968 T7 tracksuit and a relaxed-fit long-sleeve T-shirt, with first-look access through the Jil Sander newsletter.

The drop also includes a fresh take on the Puma Suede, so the capsule now covers more than the Speedcat alone. For the first time the collaboration stretches from footwear into ready-to-wear, which is framed as a new era for the long-running pairing and a signal of the label's direction.

Creative director Simone Bellotti, who joined the Hamburg house in 2025, is behind that direction. The apparel was first spotted at the Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2027 show, and Bellotti describes adding clothes as a natural progression in the two brands' dialogue rather than a departure.

The Hamburg label, founded in 1968, defined modern minimalism through precise architectural tailoring and the principle of less, but better. Bellotti frames this collection as a return to those codes: minimal yet sporty, clean but slightly weird, in line with what founder Jil Sander herself established decades ago.

A partnership that began in 1998

Sander first teamed up with fellow German brand Puma in 1998, when luxury labels simply did not do sneaker collaborations. "We were the first to conceive of a luxury sneaker," she said in a 2023 interview, adding that the work opened the door to customization, limited editions and glamour sneakers.

She transformed silhouettes such as the King football boot and the Easy Rider jogger into premium leather sneakers, a move that sent shockwaves through the fashion world. In her words, it was the logical next step for the sports industry, which was then watching luxury houses from a distance.

That initial collaboration wrapped in 2006, and the two houses stayed apart for nearly two decades. Bellotti's appointment as creative director brought them back together in 2025, with the Speedcat returning in leather as the first piece of the revived range.

Bellotti draws a direct line from the archive to the present. "Puma has always understood that sport is culture," he said. "Returning to its archive feels less like looking back and more like continuing a conversation that began almost thirty years ago."

What the October drop includes

The Speedcat is the centerpiece, keeping the svelte low-profile racer line that made the model a favorite. Around it the capsule builds head-to-toe outfits that match the tweaked sneakers, with the T7 tracksuit and the long sleeve cut in Jil Sander's minimal vocabulary.

The Suede arrives as a second footwear option in the same drop. Neither brand has published a full price list or an edition count for the capsule, and the availability window beyond the launch day has not been detailed either.

Jil Sander

Our brand page on Jil Sander records the Hamburg house's founding in 1968 and its place as the label that defined modern minimalism. That history is what this capsule trades on: the collaboration returns to codes the maison itself authored, with tailoring carrying the same weight as the sneakers.

The Speedcat's return restores a silhouette from the original run that Sander describes as a first for luxury sneakers. Moving that partnership into matching clothing is both a logical extension of her sporty minimalism and a fresh argument for the direction Bellotti is steering.

A T7 tracksuit cut by Jil Sander reads differently from the sportswear original, and pairing it with a refined Speedcat or Suede makes the whole outfit the product rather than the shoe alone. That is the shift the first apparel step represents.

The October 23 launch is the immediate next step. Bellotti has framed the archive return as an ongoing conversation, which points to further chapters rather than a one-off commemoration of the 1998 original, though no later releases have been announced.
