Direnzo has announced its first GMT watch. The DRZ 08 Cosmonaire launches on November 21 at 15:00 CET as a six-piece lineup, with pre-sale prices starting at CHF 1,200 for the standard models and rising to CHF 1,250 at retail. Five variants use a polished 316L stainless steel case, and a gold-PVD-coated edition rounds out the range.

Two limited editions are above the standard models. A 60-piece edition carries a heat-treated Muonionalusta meteorite dial. A second, limited to 40 pieces, is a collaboration with Isotope, the brand founded by José Miranda, a close friend of Direnzo founder Sergio Godoy Di Renzo.

The two limited editions list at CHF 1,350 in pre-sale and CHF 1,400 at retail. Direnzo, a Geneva-based marque founded in 2017 by the architect Sergio Godoy Di Renzo, celebrates its tenth anniversary next year.

The name Cosmonaire joins the cosmos and the traveler, and the design leans on the optimistic futurism of the Space Age. A rounded, aerodynamic case carries an elliptical bezel whose appearance shifts as the viewing angle changes. From the side, the lugs show barreled rather than cropped ends.

The case measures 39mm by 46mm and 10mm thick, dimensions that keep the watch wearable despite the sculptural silhouette. Water resistance is 100m, and a domed sapphire crystal with antireflective coating tops each version. The profile recalls industrial design of the 1960s and 1970s.

Beneath the crystal, a softly bowl-shaped surface draws the eye toward the dial's center. Four long, triangular applied hour markers add depth, and a laser-engraved, lacquer-coated panier pattern is at the middle of most dials, catching the light as the wrist turns.

An engraved ring filled with blue-emitting Super-LumiNova is below the domed crystal's edge, forming a luminous frame in low light. The hands are dagger-shaped for the hours, minutes and 24-hour scale, the first two filled with Super-LumiNova. A sweeping second hand carries a luminous circular counterweight.

The movement is an automatic Elaboré-grade Sellita SW330-2, running at 28,800vph with a 56-hour power reserve. It functions as a caller GMT, meaning the 24-hour hand adjusts independently rather than the local hour hand. There is no quickset date, and no date window at all.

The six variants and the collaborations

Direnzo pairs blue, brown and green dials with the standard steel case. A fourth steel option uses a gray dial with white Super-LumiNova and heat-blued hands, finished with a vertically brushed surface, and that is the Isotope × Direnzo piece limited to 40 examples. The 60-piece meteorite dial offers a distinctive molten pattern.

The gold-PVD-coated case is matched to a brown dial and a gold-tone bracelet. Every version ships on a five-row bracelet that mixes polished and brushed links, while leather straps with butterfly clasps are offered as an option. Direnzo applies an 800HV scratch-resistant coating to the 316L steel.

For buyers in the United States, orders ship from a local distributor, which means no import duties are added. Customers elsewhere receive their watches directly from Switzerland. That logistics choice keeps the effective price predictable for American buyers at a point where many microbrands still ship from Geneva.

In our coverage of watches jewelry, independent brands at this price point rarely pair a traveler's complication with a case this sculptural. The Cosmonaire's elliptical bezel and layered dial put it closer in spirit to small makers we have rated for adventure wear than to the traditional round case most GMTs adopt.

We reviewed the Bulova Wilton GMT as an affordable true GMT, a different architecture at a lower price, and our guide to watch complications explains how a caller GMT differs from a true GMT. The Direnzo's calling of the independent 24-hour hand is the kind of distinction the guide walks through.

The brand's car and aircraft inspiration shows in the name and the case alike. Direnzo has built dive watches before this, and readers have noted the marque's cohesive design language, but the Cosmonaire is its first attempt at the travel complication and its first time partnering with another label.

Pricing is well below the Swiss independents we track in our rankings of luxury watch brands, yet above the entry-level GMTs. What the extra spend buys is the case work: the elliptical bezel, the barreled lugs and the luminous engraved ring are details a stock Sellita case cannot offer.

Interest in a date function is met with none, which the brand has left out altogether in favor of the cleaner dial.
