Delsey has entered the aluminium luggage segment for the first time with Alu'r, a launch that lands in the Parisian brand's 80th year. The new range opens with two sizes: a 55cm carry-on case and a 76cm large spinner for checked travel.

Prices start at £425 for the smaller case and rise to £595 for the larger one, sold through Delsey.com. Beyond the familiar silver of classic aluminium luggage, both sizes come in Pop Orange, Vibrant Pink, Pine Green and Deep Black.

The high-grade aluminium has been brushed into a textured finish inspired by the weave pattern of carbon fibre, a detail that sets the cases apart from rivals. Leather handles complete the build, and every model carries reinforced corners around the shell.

The 76cm spinner weighs 6.8kg and holds 102 litres internally, which makes it the hold-luggage size of the pair. The 55cm carry-on comes in at 4.2kg with an internal volume of 35.6 litres, so the two cases differ by more than length alone.

Each case carries dual TSA-compatible combination locks, smooth shock-absorbing double wheels and a telescopic handle that adjusts finely across a variety of heights. Inside, several compartments include a dedicated spot for the Bluetooth tracker of the owner's choice.

Alu'r joins a high-end aluminium field that Delsey is not the first to enter. Carl Friedrik has just introduced its own Check-In collection, and the material is prized for the evocative, patina-bearing character that Delsey now pursues with a fresh take on texture.

Global Brand Director Coralie Lindvay framed the collection as a hinge between past and future. "As we mark our 80th year, the landmark launch of our aluminium collection signals the future direction of Delsey," she said, "while staying true to the heritage that has defined us from the beginning."

Delsey is a Parisian luggage maker, and aluminium is a new material for it. Lindvay says the launch pushes the boundaries of innovation and of the travel experience, which is a larger claim than a single pair of cases, though the company has named no further silhouettes.

The shelf is crowded, and Delsey's answer is differentiation through texture and a bolder palette rather than through the material alone. The silver case is the familiar one.

Our coverage of travel has followed this contest. We reviewed the Bellroy Lite Carry-On, a soft-shell bag that trades metal for backpack-style mobility, and our guides to the best carry-on luggage and the best luxury luggage brands set the wider market against which Alu'r now arrives.

What the Alu'r range includes

The launch comprises two silhouettes rather than a broad line. Both share the carbon-weave metal finish, leather handles, reinforced corners and the full hardware set, so the choice between them is a matter of capacity and weight rather than features.

The colour story runs across both sizes. Silver is the classic choice, Pop Orange and Vibrant Pink push the palette furthest, and Pine Green and Deep Black offer quieter alternatives on the same brushed aluminium with its textured surface.

What Delsey has not said

The company has not disclosed how the finish is applied or how the metal is treated for the brushed effect, and no limited-run status has been announced. That makes Alu'r a standing collection rather than a numbered edition.

Both sizes are on Delsey.com now, at £425 for the carry-on and £595 for the spinner. No date has been given for further sizes, though the brand says its 80th year signals the direction it intends to take.
