Brabus caps its 888-hp convertible G-Wagen at just 10 examples

Brabus has unveiled the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio, a roofless take on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 that the German tuner will build in a run of just 10 examples. It is the most powerful open-top G-Wagen the shop has produced, and pricing starts at 890,740 euros, a little more than $1 million before options, according to the company.

The 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio extends that formula to a body style Brabus has revisited before but never with this much power under the hood.

What the conversion involves

Brabus starts with the AMG G 63 and removes the roof entirely, cutting away everything above the beltline behind the C-pillar. In its place is a motorized soft top built from 500 newly developed components, including a carbon-fiber bow engineered to hold its shape at speed.

It is not the shop's first convertible 4x4. Brabus previously built the XL 800 Cabrio on the same basic idea, cutting the roof from a G-Wagen and reinforcing the structure, but the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio arrives with a bolder body kit layered over that formula.

That kit includes a more aggressive front fascia, a hood scoop, and enlarged fender flares. Brabus has also swapped the three-pointed star and grille for its own unit, which carries two red slats and the tuner's B logo in place of the Mercedes emblem.

Rounding out the exterior is a set of bespoke Platinum Edition monoblock wheels, styled after the three-spoke rims Brabus fitted to many of its builds in the 1980s. The reference ties the new convertible visibly back to the tuner's earlier catalog of modified Mercedes models.

What changed inside the cabin

The interior gets a four-seat layout with a center console running between both rows, finished floor to ceiling in black leather and Alcantara. High-gloss carbon-fiber trim covers the console and dashboard, with Rocket Red accents used throughout the cabin.

Each seat carries quilted leather inserts finished in Brabus's signature shell pattern, a detail the tuner has used across past builds to distinguish its cabins from the standard AMG G 63 interior Mercedes ships from the factory.

The performance figures behind the name

Brabus replaced the AMG G 63's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with its own 4.5-liter unit, fitted with forged pistons, high-performance connecting rods and a billet crankshaft. The reworked engine produces 888 hp and 922 ft lbs of torque, sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Brabus says the convertible sprints from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, with a computer-limited top speed of 149 mph. Those numbers put a roofless, four-seat off-roader within reach of figures more commonly associated with closed-cockpit sports cars.

An adjustable suspension is fitted as well, capable of dropping the ride height by 1.8 inches. The setup gives the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio a lower stance for road use without sacrificing the clearance the G-Class platform is built around off-road.

What a build costs and how to get one

With only 10 units planned and pricing set at 890,740 euros before customization, Brabus is telling prospective buyers to contact the shop directly and quickly if they want to secure one of the builds.

The tuner has not said whether any of the 10 examples remain unclaimed or how allocation is being decided among interested buyers, a detail that typically surfaces once a limited run like this nears completion and deliveries begin.

Brabus has not disclosed a delivery timeline for the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio, nor confirmed whether the convertible will appear at any upcoming motor show before customer cars reach their owners later this year or next.
