It’s still a clutch, technically. But everything about it thinks bigger.
Soft enough to squish under your arm like a favorite cushion. Roomy enough to swallow an iPad mini, which is more than most clutches can say. Understated enough to work with almost anything in my capsule wardrobe.
Add buttery Italian lambskin and a removable shoulder strap, and suddenly the forecast is looking very good.
Oversized without overwhelming, slouchy without losing its shape, and soft without being fussy. The Cloud has the softness, sculpture and effortless polish we want from a clutch, plus the room we usually wish it had. It goes from casual to cocktail, shoulder to hand, day to night. Mansur Gavriel made its name with a bucket bag. Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel launched the label in New York in 2013 with a simple formula: beautiful Italian leather, clean lines, no logos shouting for attention, and a price that felt refreshingly removed from the usual luxury markup.
The Cloud takes that pared-back approach somewhere softer.
Italian lambskin is gathered onto a curved frame, creating the bag’s distinctive puffed, cloud-like silhouette. It comes in two sizes: Mini and Oversized. I’m carrying the latter, because if we’re going to make a case for a bigger clutch, we might as well go all in.
Unboxing: Minimalist at heart
The bag arrives in a branded dust bag. No elaborate unveiling, no unnecessary layers. Just the kind of understated presentation you’d expect from a brand that lets the leather do the talking.
Materials & craftsmanship: A very soft life — lambskin that feels like La Dolce Vita
Walking on clouds might be out of reach. Getting your hands on one? Much easier.
The Oversized Cloud is crafted from ultra-supple Italian lambskin that feels almost buttery to the touch. The leather is gathered onto the curved frame in soft folds, giving the bag its signature puffed shape and an almost cloud-like quality, even when it’s only half full.
And this isn’t softness for softness’s sake. The leather feels beautifully smooth and pliable, with a fine grain and a suppleness that should only become more pronounced with age.
It’s genuinely one of the softest bags I’ve owned. The kind you find yourself reaching out to touch for no particular reason.
Which, I suppose, is exactly the point.
Aesthetic & design: Soft shape, strong presence
I have a soft spot for a good bag. This one takes it literally. The Cloud doesn’t try to project toughness. It has a quieter kind of confidence — the sort that doesn’t need hard edges to hold its own.
Soft and slouchy, but still sculptural, its curved silhouette has just enough structure to keep the shape interesting. It feels relaxed rather than precious, which is part of what makes it so easy to wear.
And this is where the Cloud really earns its keep: it plays nicely with almost everything. Jeans and sneakers? Absolutely. Dinner and heels? Just as easily. It softens tailoring and takes the edge off a more dressed-up look without ever feeling out of place.
Basically, it doesn’t ask you to dress around the bag. It just gets along with what you’re already wearing.
Colors & sizes: Choose your Cloud
Mine is Black/Flamma: classic black on the outside, with a flash of red inside. A little Louboutin-esque, if you know, you know.
The Oversized Cloud also comes in Ebony, a deep chocolate brown, and Golden Roccia, a metallic printed cobra texture for those who prefer their clouds with a little more drama.

The Oversized Cloud packs in considerably more than its slouchy silhouette suggests: your wallet, sunglasses, phone, book, daily essentials and even an iPad mini. It’s the rare clutch that doesn’t require you to edit your life down to the bare minimum.
If the Oversized feels like too much bag, there’s the Mini Cloud — same soft, sculptural idea, just scaled down.
Functionality: Soft power
There’s a quiet confidence to the Cloud. And, as it turns out, quite a lot of room. A silk scarf, wallet, sweater, sunglasses and my makeup pouch all made it in.
The magnetic closure is strong and reassuringly secure, though that does mean it can take a little persuasion to open one-handed.
It’s also genuinely comfortable to carry. The removable shoulder strap turns it from clutch to shoulder bag in seconds, adding another layer of versatility. With an 11-inch drop, it sits neatly under the arm without feeling bulky.
And that may be the Cloud’s biggest strength: it doesn’t demand a particular outfit, occasion or way of carrying it. It just fits in.
Pretty much everywhere.
Care & maintenance: Softness needs care
Lambskin likes a little attention. Mansur Gavriel recommends using a leather conditioner to keep the leather hydrated, avoiding abrasive surfaces, and storing the bag in its dust bag when it’s taking a break.
Nothing high-maintenance. Just a little TLC for all that softness.
Price: Under four figures
At $825, the Oversized Cloud stays under four figures.
It’s not an impulse buy, but it sits in a different conversation from the four-figure-and-beyond designer clutch. For Italian lambskin, a distinctive sculptural shape and the option to carry it two ways, there’s a lot packed into the price tag.
Not a steal. Not outrageous. And considerably more versatile than your average clutch.

Who is the Mansur Gavriel Oversized Cloud best for?
For the woman who loves the look of a clutch but has officially outgrown the idea of traveling light.
The Oversized Cloud makes sense if you:
