For years, a good pair of heels was the one thing I never let myself invest in. I work from home, so they’re not an everyday shoe—and every time an occasion came up, I’d put the money toward failsafe flats or sneakers and talk myself into another throwaway pair of heels instead.
Many blistered toes and bruised heels later, I’ve learned my lesson: one pair you genuinely want to wear beats a closet full you don’t.
Whether you live in heels for work or (like me) only reach for them on the occasions that matter, every woman deserves at least one pair that’s truly comfortable—and made to last well beyond a single season.
Before you resist: comfortable heels do exist.
They’re just not easy to find. Well, for me, they weren’t. Once I started prioritizing arch support, ankle security, cushioned soles and wider heels, I came to genuinely love wearing them—a sentence I never thought I’d say.
I’ll still reach for my Birkenstocks or slippers (sssh, don’t tell) when I’m working from home. But the moment I leave the house, the right pair of heels has become my secret weapon. They lengthen your legs and lift any outfit, without asking you to trade away comfort to get there. That’s the whole point.
These heels actually walk the walk. And so, in them, can we.
Why you can trust Luxe Digital? As women with a lot on the go, we know the small dread of stepping into heels in the morning—the pair that looks the part but punishes you for it by lunch. So our editors set out to find the ones that don’t make you choose: comfortable enough to wear all day, and well-made enough to keep for years.
We tried on dozens of the most popular heels, judging each against the comfort criteria we lay out in the Buyer’s Guide at the end of this piece. Every shoe here had to earn its place—we’d rather point you to a few pairs worth the investment than a long list you’ll regret. For more on how we test products and the standards each recommendation has to meet, see our testing process.

Gianvito Rossi is the epitome of high-quality Italian craftsmanship and the label has earned a reputation for designing some of the world’s most wearable high heels.

This Gianvito Rossi Portofino Sandal features lightly cushioned insoles set on 85mm heels for luxurious comfort. Equal parts chic and comfortable, these are the party-perfect pump to grab for a night out with friends with the confidence that you’ll go home without any of the typical high-heel pain.

From the moment we laid eyes on them, we fell in love with the versatile shoe’s quintessential elegance and wedding-worthy appeal. But the real selling point of the shoe remained a secret until we tried them on.
As one of the most comfortable heels we stepped into, the 3.2” block heel is tall and stable. While the padded insole cushions every step down the aisle. Featuring an adjustable, secure ankle strap, the only falling you’ll have to worry about is falling in love—with your partner and with this Emmy London Stella.

Mansur Gavriel: Best comfortable heels for work
Your workplace may be relaxing its dress code, but a sneaker or sandal will never be able to replace a heel in its ability to empower and impress. As our most comfortable work heels, Mansur Gavriel’s Dream Pump is as snug as our favorite flat, but it’s also a confident shoe.
The feminine bow, pump toe and glossy finish are a more sophisticated spin (or pirouette) on a ballerina classic. And we love that the walkable block heel isn’t too tall, whilst still taking our everyday office getup to new heights.
Wear the ballet-inspired Mansur Gavriel Dream Pump with an oversized blazer, to secure your client, as well as the title of office fashionista.
Our verdict
These are the kind of empowering work shoes that close deals and secure clients. But they’re also the kind that are comfortable to wear all day and stylish enough to head to the bar for post-work drinks.

Castañer Carina Canvas Espadrille Wedges: Most comfortable wedge pumps
True comfort comes in the form of wedge heels, thanks to the even distribution of weight throughout the foot. Luckily, they’re also one of the biggest summer footwear trends year after year, so if you’re thinking of investing in a pair of comfortable wedge heels this month, Castañer’s espadrille wedges will be a great addition to your wardrobe. Chic, comfortable, and with a closed toe for those summer “off-pedicure” days, these wedges feel luxurious, easy, and smooth to walk in.
Available in different neutral colors, they’re a brilliant addition to your suitcase for evenings spent strolling along the promenade or laughing with family and friends at a barbecue. Pretty ribbon ties fasten securely around the ankles, allowing you to relax and enjoy your day without worrying about foot pain. Pair them with blue jeans or airy summer dresses for an easy summer solution.
Best for: Wedges of comfort.

Wedge pumps are generally regarded as one of the more comfortable heels. But the Castañer Carina takes comfort to new heights with its padded jute soles, ankle ties and breathable materials.

Aquazzura Bow Tie Pumps: Most comfortable stiletto heels
Expertly sculpted in Italy from velvety smooth suede, Aquazzura’s timelessly elegant Bow Tie pumps are definitely worthy of the front row seat they’ll take in your wardrobe, ready to be pulled out at virtually all occasions (and we mean all occasions). Both the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle make a strong case for the versatility of Aquazzura’s Bow Tie pumps— the pointy heels were spotted on many royal visits.
With a slingback strap and ladylike silhouette, the point-toe pumps comfortably rest on a 3-inch stiletto heel while the cutouts follow the natural lines of the foot and leave a glimpse of skin on show.
The high heel is fashionably wearable in a way that only Aquazzura knows how, and exudes class and style whenever they’re effortlessly slipped on. Let the bow ties at the back do the talking by pairing these with an all-black outfit, or tap into Aquazzura’s sense of fun by mixing colors, textures, and fabrics from top to bottom.
Best for: Bow tie in shoe form.
Our verdict
The pompous stiletto has a reputation for being the most uncomfortable shoe. Which is why we were amazed at how long we could walk around in these Aquazzura needle-thin heels confidently and comfortably.

Emmy London Josie: Most comfortable block high heel shoes
Kate Middleton loves them. And so do we. Emmy London’s Josie epitomizes contemporary elegance with grace and ease. The pointed toe fits into any sophisticated soiree. The 85mm block heel adds a modern aesthetic as well an air of practical utilitarianism. Whilst the padded insole enhances the comfort of the shoe even further.
Lined with leather, the suave suede exterior runs the gamut in scintillating hues. The jet black chunky heels are perfect for pairing with your LBD for an evening affair. The lipstick red is a failsafe pick for making a vibrant entrance. Style your timelessly elegant tweed with a Fall chocolate brown iteration. Or keep it fresh and Spring-inspired in a jade green pair in the office. Whatever your shade, these block heels are well worth adding to your rotation of exquisitely elevated but endlessly walkable heels.
Best for: The royal treatment for your feet.
Our verdict
A comfortable block heel is one of those wardrobe heroes you can’t live without. We wear our Emmy London Josie pumps year-round to every kind of smart casual soiree.

Gucci: Most comfortable kitten heels
These Gucci heels are what every kitten heel should be—comfortable, chic and just a little decadent. Accented with lace and crystals, the glamorous silhouette explores the notion of femininity within the framework of empowering, comfortable footwear.
The low heel is only 1.4” high, making it the perfect choice for women who want the flattering effect of heels but don’t want to add too much height. The closed-toe heels feature an adjustable slingback buckle for customized security.
Made in Italy from premium fabrics, the Gucci kitten heel is engineered to outwalk seasons of transcending trends without breaking a heel.
Our verdict
If you’re just looking for a pair of kitten heels to wear once off, there’s no need to invest in a pair of Guccis. However, if you’re a fan of a lower heel, a pointed toe and decadent details, you won’t find a better and more comfortable pair than these.

Vionic Jacynda: Most comfortable slingback heels
Characterized by a signature ankle strap, slingbacks are generally more supportive than most. But even better than most, the Jacynda by Vionic is a masterclass in elegant comfort.
Featuring contoured orthotic soles and arch support, these padded shoes feel more like wearing slippers than heels. But they’re a lot more sophisticated. And while the 2.25” kitten heel isn’t very high, the pointed toe and sumptuous leather make up for it in elevated detailing.
Opt for versatile black, diamante-clad shiraz, or take a walk on the wild side in leopard faux fur. Either way, you’ll fall head over heels for these impossibly comfortable Vionic slingbacks.
Our verdict
Featuring a low kitten heel, ankle straps, a contoured footbed and ample arch support, we could quite comfortably live in these Vionic slingbacks.

Naturalizer Vera: Most comfortable ankle strap heels
The adjustable buckle allows for a tailored fit. And the perfectly positioned strap hits just the right spot for ample ankle support that is also stylish.
We appreciate that the medium block heel is an easy height to wear often. And the soft leather open-toe silhouette is equally comfortable.
The minimalist heel runs the gamut in signature hues. Opt for a classical colorway to maximize wearability. Or dip your toes (pun intended) into the dopamine dressing trend with a bright orange, fuschia or purple. Either way, the Naturalizer Vera Block Heel is a fashion failsafe.
Our verdict
It hits at just the right point to maximize support without rubbing the wrong way. And the open-toe silhouette makes for the perfect versatile summer heel.

Manolo Blahnik Maysale: Most comfortable mule heels
We can see why Carrie Bradshaw is so obsessed with the iconic label. Marrying the slip-on comfort of your favorite bedtime shoe with the refined sophistication of Manolo Blahnik heels, this suede mule is one of the most comfortable heels we’ve tried. Not to mention that they’re decidedly decadent and effortlessly versatile all at the same time.
Crafted by artisans in Italy from soft suede, the Manolo Blahnik Maysale mule has an elegant pointed toe with the brand’s signature decorative buckle topper, a backless design, and a gently fluted 2-inch kitten heel for a comfortable fit.
Our verdict
More expensive than most, Manolo Blahniks are an investment for sure. But if you’re prepared to pay for a designer pair of heels, you won’t find a pair of mules more decadent, timeless and comfortable than these.

Stuart Weitzman Yuliana: Most comfortable heeled boots
Renowned for its high-quality designer footwear, Stuart Weitzman is always a brand worth considering when looking for the best of the best. And while we had sky-high expectations for the label’s heeled boots, they were exceeded the moment we stepped out of the house.
Of course, we already knew we loved the look of the round toe, block-heel sock boots. But nothing could prepare us for how comfortable they were. The stretchy suede material is soft against the skin and molds to your foot. And the chunky block heel is just as comfortable as walking in flats.
The Stuart Weitzman Yuliana boots elongate your legs by 2.5 inches and you can’t even tell you’re wearing heels.
Our verdict
If you’re transitioning into Fall and looking for a comfortable pair of heeled boots, this designer pair by Stuart Weitzman is it.

Our comfort criteria: Buyer’s guide to finding the right pair of heels
Besides assessing how easy they were to walk in, we evaluated all the heels according to Luxe Digital’s criteria for comfort:
-
Heel height, shape and style: There are many different types of heels. Some—like your wedge, block, platforms, and espadrilles—are naturally more comfortable. While others—ahem, stilettos—aren’t typically considered comfort shoes. However, we took up the challenge, and managed to find the most comfortable heels in every height, shape, and style.
-
Cushioned insoles: Does it contour to your feet? Does it provide ample cushioning? Does it absorb the shock of every step? These are the questions we asked when assessing the soles of the most popular luxury heels. Cushioned soles can be a lifesaver when it comes to comfortable heels, and a memory foam sole can be the difference between throwing a favorite pair to the back of your wardrobe or putting them on just to wander around the house for fun. If you do accidentally buy a pair of heels that are akin to sleeping on a bed of concrete, invest in some memory foam insoles to bridge the gap.
-
Toe box: Naturally, open toes are usually less restrictive and more breathable, making them the more comfortable choice in warmer seasons. However, during winter, you’ll want a closed toe that keeps your feet warm without squishing them or allowing them to float around. With a closed toe, the fit has to be perfect. Round-toe and almond-toe shoes offer more space than classic pointy toes.
-
Materials: A high-quality material like leather or suede will last infinitely longer than artificial materials. It’ll also ensure your sandals are comfier and less likely to rub against your toes. We prioritized materials that were soft, breathable, and also lightweight so that the heel doesn’t clomp when you walk.
-
Straps: Multiple straps make a huge difference when it comes to how supportive your heel is. They help secure your foot and keep it in place, so you don’t have to worry about twisting an ankle while balancing on your heel. That being said, we specifically looked for straps that were adjustable and padded.
-
Ankle support: One of the main issues you’ll find with buying heels is the lack of ankle support which, in turn, can make a relatively comfy-seeming pair quickly go downhill. We looked for elements like ankle straps and higher ankle collars to ensure that our ankles felt supported while walking around.
Frequently asked questions about the most comfortable heels
Frequently asked questions about the most comfortable heels
What is the most comfiest heel?
The most comfortable heel typically features a block or wedge shape with a moderate height, around 2 to 3 inches. These designs provide better stability and weight distribution compared to stilettos or very high heels. Additionally, heels with cushioned insoles, arch support and ankle straps further enhance comfort. For all the best options, see our guide to the most comfortable heels.
What type of heels hurt less?
While heels don’t have the best reputation when it comes to comfort, our best luxury brands go the extra mile to ensure that you don’t have to compromise comfort to gain that extra height. In our search for the most comfortable heels, we tried on many different types of heels, prioritizing the ones made from soft, light materials with ample cushioning, arch support and ankle support.
Are platform heels the most comfortable?
Platform heels can be more comfortable than traditional high heels as they offer more surface area and support for the feet, reducing the steepness of the arch created by the heel. The platform under the ball of the foot helps to offset the height of the heel, making it easier and more comfortable to wear for longer periods.
Which types of heels are most comfortable?
Kitten heels, wedge heels, and those with a chunky heel or block heel are thought to be the most supportive and, therefore, the most comfortable. If comfort is key, avoid shoes with a thinner and higher heel in favor of those that are easier to walk in.
