NikeSKIMS has opened its first physical destination in China, a pop-up called the NikeSKIMS Shanghai HKRI Taikoo Hui Pop-Up. Nike and SKIMS unveiled the space for their joint venture, and it opens to the public on September 29, 2026, running through February 2027.
SKIMS Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Kim Kardashian hosted a preview on September 28, the day before public opening. The store carries the complete NikeSKIMS Fall Edit 01 collection, which spans apparel, footwear and accessories, so the full range is on the floor from day one.
What the Shanghai space offers
The pop-up is designed to reflect the brand's aesthetic language. Its layout combines custom product displays, fitting rooms and dedicated lounge areas, and the stated aim is that visitors can judge fit and try pieces on in person rather than judge them from a screen.
Shanghai also gets services tailored to local shoppers. On-site tailoring is offered for select pieces, and the companies say community activities and product experiences will follow. They gave no dates or details for those events, and did not say which pieces qualify for tailoring.
Shoppers who cannot get to the pop-up have another route. The collection is also accessible digitally through the Nike App, so an online channel runs beside the store from the first day. Neither company has said whether stock differs between the two.
The location is the HKRI Taikoo Hui development, which gives the pop-up its name. It is a temporary format, with a run of roughly five months from the September 29 opening. Nike and SKIMS have not said whether a permanent NikeSKIMS store in China is planned.
Who came to the opening
Kardashian's family and a run of Chinese athletes and entertainers filled the opening event. Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian attended, along with swimmer Stephanie Au, basketball player Li Meng and track athlete Liu Yinglan.
The entertainment guests were actresses Vanda Li and Zhuang Dafei, singers Jike Junyi and Lexie Liu, and supermodel Zhao Jiali. Pairing sportspeople with actresses and singers fits a collaboration that sells performance footwear and close-fitting apparel under one name.
Kardashian on China and the Rift
At the pop-up, Kardashian described the Chinese market as the next chapter for NikeSKIMS. That is the strategic message of the opening: the first physical foothold in China is a temporary space in Shanghai rather than a permanent store, and the collection is also sold digitally.
She also discussed designing the shoe. Kardashian has long had an affinity for the Nike Air Max 95 and 97, and said she always knew a sneaker would be a must once she partnered with the Swoosh. A longer conversation with her is due on social channels.
Her debut sneaker with the brand is the Rift. She chose it largely for its silhouette-hugging shape, which she saw as a match for the ethos of SKIMS, the brand she co-founded and whose work centers on close-fitting pieces.
The pop-up joins a wider pattern of digitally led brands testing physical retail, a shift we have followed in our reporting on why digital-native luxury brands are opening physical stores. A time-limited Shanghai format lets NikeSKIMS gauge demand before any decision on something more permanent.
For brands weighing where to expand in China, the choice of Shanghai is a reminder of how the market is being approached. We have looked at how luxury brands review their strategy for China's tier 2 and 3 cities, a question this pop-up does not address.
After that the pop-up runs through February 2027, with community activities and product experiences promised during the run and a fuller Kardashian interview still to be published online.
