DUG Glashütte shrinks its Purist collection to a 37mm case

DUG Glashütte has introduced the Purist 37, a smaller version of its debut dress watch that trims the case from 40mm to 37mm while widening the number of ways to configure it. The German brand, founded by Toni Brodführer, builds every piece to the Glashütte designation of origin, a legal standard for watches made and finished in that Saxon town.

The new case is a three-piece stainless-steel construction with a diamond-shaped fluted crown, brushed and polished surfaces, and dimensions of 37mm across, 10.35mm thick and 43.9mm from lug to lug. A slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides covers the dial, and a sapphire caseback exposes the movement.

Water resistance is rated to 100 meters. Buyers choose between Typ 1, with baton hour markers for a restrained, minimalist face, and Typ 2, which carries more traditional Arabic numerals across the dial, a distinction the brand carried over unchanged from the original 40mm Purist.

Both dial types come in three colors: Onyx Black, Moon White and Royal Blue. Each has a textured surface, applied markers and luminous hands and indices filled with Super-LumiNova BG W9, the compound the brand names specifically for its glow in darkness.

A date window at 6 o'clock is available on every version, with its disc color-matched to the dial rather than left in a contrasting white or black. That leaves buyers with eight possible combinations once dial type, color and date option are all factored together, before the strap or bracelet choice is even made.

What powers the smaller case

The Purist 37 runs on the DUG 200 automatic, a movement based on the Sellita SW 200, itself an alternative to the widely used ETA 2824. DUG Glashütte finishes and decorates the caliber in Glashütte, applying hand-worked perlage, finished bridges and plates, and screws with the town's characteristic blue surface treatment.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the openworked rotor is manufactured in Glashütte and finished with 24k gold plating over a tungsten weight. The DUG 200 runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and stores 40 hours of power reserve, figures the brand states for every Purist 37 variant regardless of dial or strap choice.

Straps, bracelets and pricing

The watch ships on a genuine buffalo leather strap measuring 18mm at the lugs and tapering to 16mm, available in colors chosen to complement each dial, or on a stainless-steel bracelet with fine adjustment. Both options use a quick-release system, letting an owner swap between them without tools.

DUG Glashütte prices the Purist 37 from EUR 1,199 on the leather strap, and directs buyers to order and configure it directly through the brand's own site, where all eight dial, case and strap combinations are listed alongside the pricing for each.

The steel bracelet adds EUR 100, and choosing the date function adds a further EUR 100, so a fully specified bracelet model with the date window reaches EUR 1,399 before any strap or dial preference shifts the total further.

That positioning puts the Purist 37 well below the price of most Glashütte-made watches, a category dominated by names that command several thousand euros for a comparable in-house finish. Why the smaller case matters

Sizing down an existing model rather than launching a new one is a pattern we have tracked elsewhere in fine watchmaking this year: Greubel Forsey shrank its GMT Balancier Convexe and added a power reserve for a 22-piece blue edition, and our coverage of that watch found the smaller case changed proportions without touching the movement architecture underneath.

The Purist 37 follows a similar logic at a far lower price point. Choosing between the 40mm original and the new 37mm case now comes down to wrist size and personal preference rather than any difference in construction, finishing or the Glashütte-made movement inside each one.

The company has not stated whether the smaller case will extend to other lines beyond the Purist collection.
