Czinger
The American hypercar maker whose 21C is built from AI-designed, 3D-printed metal structures, capped at 80 units.
Czinger is an American hypercar maker known for 3D-printed, computationally designed structures and its 21C hybrid hypercar. Kevin Czinger and his son Lukas founded the company in 2019 in Los Angeles. Where most hypercar makers start with an engine, Czinger starts with how the car is built, and the 21C is the result.
Behind the brand
Kevin Czinger created Divergent Technologies in 2014 to rethink how vehicles are engineered and produced, and in 2019 he and his son Lukas founded the carmaker that carries the family name. Czinger the carmaker is a subsidiary of Divergent, and the two stay distinct: Divergent built the manufacturing platform, and Czinger turns it into a finished car. The platform is the Divergent Adaptive Production System, or DAPS, which combines AI-driven generative design with metal 3D printing to produce structural parts. That technology sits behind the 21C’s chassis and suspension.
The technology
Generative design lets software calculate the strongest shape for a part using the least material. It works through thousands of candidate forms and returns the one that balances strength and weight, which often looks organic, with lattice-like internal passages and branching members. Metal 3D printing then builds those shapes layer by layer, adding material only where the design calls for it. Traditional carmaking depends on tooling, stamping, casting, and machining. DAPS replaces much of that with computed geometry and printed metal, and it produces parts that would be nearly impossible to make any other way.
The 21C
The 21C is Czinger’s flagship and effectively its only model. It is a hybrid hypercar with a tandem two-seat layout, the passenger seated directly behind the driver in a fighter-jet arrangement that narrows the cabin and puts the driver at the center. Its main structural parts are 3D-printed through DAPS. Production is capped at 80 units worldwide, with first deliveries in 2024. Published performance figures vary widely by source, so no single number carries authority, and pricing sits in multi-million-dollar hypercar territory without one fixed sticker.
The low volume follows from the process rather than from marketing. DAPS prints structural parts one at a time, so each car is slow to build, and the 80-unit run is a natural outcome of a method that treats every part individually.
Where it sits
Czinger earns its place on a hypercar index by treating manufacturing as the innovation. The 21C shares the multi-million-dollar tier with Bugatti and Koenigsegg, but it does not compete with them on traditional terms. Where they refine the engine and the aerodynamics, Czinger rewrites how the load-bearing parts come into being. You will find the 21C in our guide to the most expensive cars in the world, and it belongs in any honest list of the fastest cars available today.
