Zeekr

Zeekr is the premium electric-vehicle brand of the Chinese automaker Geely, built to compete in the luxury electric segment against Tesla, Nio, and the Western luxury makers moving into EVs. It is a standalone label with a design-led identity, wholly owned by Geely, and backed by one of the world’s largest car groups.

Behind the brand

Geely launched Zeekr in 2021 and set it up as a standalone premium brand rather than a badge added to an existing car. It is headquartered in Ningbo, in China’s Zhejiang province, and it is wholly owned by Geely. The point was to enter the luxury electric market with a fresh identity and no legacy baggage, while drawing on Geely’s manufacturing scale and shared EV platforms.

Zeekr sits among other names in the Geely family, including Polestar, Lynk & Co, and Lotus. Those are separate companies with their own models and histories. Zeekr shares a parent with them, not a product line.

The lineup

Zeekr launched with the 001, a shooting-brake-style car and its original flagship, whose silhouette blends a coupe roofline with the practicality of a wagon. The 001 is still the model most people picture when they think of Zeekr. The range has grown since: the 007 is a sedan, the 009 a large MPV built around interior space, the X a compact SUV for city use, and the 7X a mid-size SUV.

All of them share Geely’s EV architecture, which keeps development fast and costs in check and lets Zeekr spend its effort on design, cabin quality, and the ownership experience. Five body styles cover the part of the premium electric market where buyers actually shop, without scattering the brand across every segment.

Going global

Geely built Zeekr for markets outside China from the start. It opened its first European showroom in Stockholm in 2023, a deliberate choice, since Sweden has a mature EV market and a design culture that prizes restraint. The brand has added European markets and other regions since. North America is not part of that push, and Zeekr is not sold in the United States.

Where Zeekr sits

Zeekr is Geely’s challenger in the luxury electric segment, aimed at the buyer already weighing a Tesla, a Nio, or a Western luxury EV. It leans on Geely Holding Group for manufacturing scale and shared platforms, which places it inside a group that ranks among the largest car companies in the world. Pricing varies widely by market and tax regime, so no single sticker tells the story. What stays constant is the tier of buyer it targets and the staying power that Geely’s backing gives it.
