Santoni is an Italian luxury shoemaker known for hand-finished, hand-patinated leather dress shoes. Its signature is that patina: artisans paint layers of pigment onto each upper by hand until the leather takes on a graded, tonal color that a polished factory shoe cannot match.

The company was founded in 1975 in Corridonia, in the Marche region of Italy, and it still makes its shoes there. It marked its 50th anniversary in 2025. The house is owned and run by the Santoni family, and that independence has kept the focus on the craft rather than on outside shareholders.

Behind the brand

Andrea Santoni founded the firm in 1975 and built it from a small workshop into an upper-tier luxury shoemaker. It stayed in Corridonia, a town in the Marche, the region long tied to Italian shoemaking, rather than moving to a larger fashion capital. The Milan address is a boutique. The shoes have always come from the Marche.

The patina finish

The patina starts with bare leather. Artisans apply pigment by hand in several layers, building a color that shifts from light to dark across the upper. The work takes time and skill, and it is why no two pairs look exactly alike.

Santoni is also known for its double-buckle shoes. The extra strap and buckle appear on loafers and monk styles, adding formality and a point of recognition. The patina and the double buckle together give the house a look that holds steady across seasons.

Construction and materials

Santoni builds on traditional Italian methods. Many of its dress shoes use Blake stitching, and some lines add Goodyear welting, both of which let the maker shape the leather closely to the foot. Each pair is hand-finished in many stages before it leaves Corridonia. The house does not sell itself on a step count. It sells the hand-work itself.
