Jensen International has unveiled the Interceptor GTX, a track-only prototype that revives a name last sold new in 1976. The original Interceptor launched in 1966 under Jensen Motors, a British manufacturer that ran for roughly five decades before closing. Jensen International, which relaunched in 2010 as a restomod house, calls the GTX its first original model rather than a continuation car.
The GTX runs a 6.8-liter supercharged V-8 built by Late Model Engines in Texas, producing nearly 947 hp and revving to 7,000 rpm. The engine pairs a 2.65-liter Roots-type supercharger with electronic boost control to a Samsonas Motorsport six-speed sequential transmission. No performance figures such as top speed or acceleration have been released.
UK studio Avant Design shaped the car's look digitally, pairing a muscle-car front end with a fastback rear profile. Coventry Metalcraft built the hand-formed aluminum body over an aluminum chassis with double-wishbone suspension and three-way adjustable dampers. Artiglio Automotive Studio supplied the carbon-fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing, which together generate more than 771 pounds of downforce.
Braking comes from an AP Racing package developed with BG Developments, gripping 20-inch forged-aluminum Vossen wheels made specifically for the GTX and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Inside, the cockpit carries Tillett carbon-fiber seats, an FIA-spec safety cage, a Lifeline fire-suppression system and a digital instrument display, finished in Alcantara.
What comes after the prototype
Jensen International managing director David Duerden says the team avoided unnecessary electronic intervention, keeping adjustable traction control, launch control and motorsport ABS but little else. The company says much of the GTX's engineering will carry over into a street-legal Interceptor and a more luxury-focused sibling model. Sixty years separate this car from the original Interceptor's 1966 debut, and the company has not set a date for either production model or disclosed pricing.
