Birkenstock has two separate designer reworks of its Boston clog landing within days of each other this September. Etro's version, developed alongside a matching Gizeh sandal, reaches stores on September 10 and is sold through Birkenstock and Etro. BEAMS BOY's take, a special-order project called Patch Work, follows on September 12 at a listed price of ¥36,300, about $230.

Etro's Boston and Gizeh apply the house's paisley motif and dense material treatments across the upper, with embroidered accents and long fringe added for texture and movement. A Western-style buckle replaces Birkenstock's standard closure hardware, and special rivets carry Etro's Pegaso emblem.

The construction stays true to Birkenstock underneath the decoration. Each style is built on the brand's contoured cork-latex footbed, and the outsole keeps Birkenstock's bone-pattern tread but overlays it with Etro's paisley, extending the co-branding to the underfoot surface.

Boston and Gizeh mark the opening two releases of the Etro x Birkenstock partnership. Pricing and the exact colorway had not been disclosed at release. The brands frame the pair as the opening chapter of the tie-up, suggesting the collaboration is built to extend beyond these two styles.

BEAMS BOY's three-tone patchwork Boston

BEAMS BOY's Boston Patch Work, styled in a Brown Patchwork colorway, pieces together three suede tones, Birkenstock's Taupe, Mink and Mocha, in a deliberately mismatched pattern. The asymmetry is intentional: each shoe in the pair carries a slightly different panel arrangement, giving the design a handmade, one-off character.

The seams carry the visual language of the shoe, trading the Boston's usual single-material face for texture and contrast. Inside, the footbed carries both the Birkenstock and BEAMS logos, and the pair ships in BEAMS' signature orange box, marking a shared 50th anniversary.

The upper and insole lining are natural leather, the outsole is synthetic EVA, and the shoe is produced in Germany. The release spans a broad size run, with smaller sizes sold under the BEAMS BOY label and larger men's sizes available as a companion listing. Its SKU is 13330193271, and it is sold through BEAMS.

Birkenstock's collaborations beyond Etro and BEAMS

Birkenstock has reworked the Boston with other designers this year. ADERERROR's second collaboration with the brand, released in August around a concept called Thread, introduced two new styles across four colorways, a month before Etro and BEAMS BOY's own reworks arrived.

The Arizona remains Birkenstock's most popular model, with the Boston and Gizeh named as increasingly popular in their own right.

The Boston and the Gizeh are two of Birkenstock's most recognizable styles. We rate the Koio Salerno, a clog-style mule with a cushioned footbed handmade in Italy from LWG-certified leather, as the closest alternative to the Boston in our guide to Birkenstock alternatives, though it costs slightly more than the Boston itself.
