Birkenstock's collaboration with Etro goes on sale September 10, seven months after it first appeared on Etro's fall/winter 2026 runway at Milan Fashion Week in February. The capsule is part of 1774, Birkenstock's Paris-based special projects division, and marks the first of several planned chapters.

The collection centers on two silhouettes. The Boston clog, Birkenstock's first closed-toe style, launched in 1976 and turns 50 this year; it now appears in premium suede and nappa leather with embroidered accents, long fringe, custom Western-style buckles and Pegasus-branded rivets, Etro's signature emblem. The Gizeh sandal, introduced in 1983, gets the same fringe treatment draped over the foot.

What's underfoot

Both styles keep Birkenstock's anatomically shaped cork-latex footbed and come fully wrapped in tonal leather. The outsole pairs Birkenstock's bone-pattern tread with Etro's paisley motif, a detail visible only when the shoe is turned over. Colors are limited to taupe and chocolate brown.

The range arrives at Etro.com, 1774.com, and select Etro and Birkenstock boutiques and retail partners worldwide. Birkenstock has not disclosed pricing or how many pairs will be produced, nor detailed what later chapters of the partnership will include.

Part of a wider strategy

The Etro tie-up lands amid a run of Birkenstock collaborations. The brand released a second collection with South Korean label Ader Error in August, also built on the Boston clog. A month earlier came a Repetto partnership built around the Arizona sandal, the Scala and the Opéra sabot, unified by the French ballet house's Vichy-check gingham lining. In June, Birkenstock previewed a Sacai collaboration at Paris men's fashion week, mixing buckles from three different Birkenstock silhouettes into one sandal and clog.

Four designer collaborations have surfaced between June and September. Birkenstock said further chapters of the collaboration will be revealed in the coming months.
