Moncler has opened its largest-ever store in the world, a 23,680-square-foot flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York. The two-level space is inside the General Motors Building at 767 Fifth Avenue, close to Central Park, and was designed by Gilles & Boissier, the French studio Moncler has worked with for more than 20 years.

Executive chairman Remo Ruffini described it as more than a store opening, calling it something that becomes "part of the life of the people in this city" and a "brand statement on one of the most iconic addresses in the world." He said the team conceived it as a living space shaped by New York's culture while staying true to the brand's DNA.

The ground floor carries the Moncler Collection main line for Men's, Women's and Enfant, alongside designer co-creations from the Genius platform and the brand's latest footwear. The entire second floor is given over to Moncler Grenoble, the house's high-performance mountain line, built as a year-round wardrobe for alpine life.

That Grenoble floor spans skiwear, goggles, cocooning apres-ski pieces and lightweight layering for hiking and trekking. It also houses a curated run of partner gear: Moncler Grenoble interpretations of Stockli skis, POC helmets and Whitespace x Moncler Grenoble snowboards made with brand ambassador and champion snowboarder Shaun White.

What the design borrows from New York and the Alps

Gilles & Boissier built what Moncler calls a gallery-like environment, with ceilings rising more than eight meters to create verticality that nods to both the brand's alpine legacy and the city's skyscrapers. Monumental columns punctuate the floor, and a freestanding curiosity cabin houses seasonal installations.

The glass facade is clad in Saint Williams granite and lined with integrated LED strips, producing what the company describes as a kinetic visual signature echoing nearby Times Square. The signature checkerboard floor alternates polished and raw textures, and towering textured glass displays rise like frozen waterfalls.

Curated artworks, multimedia installations and commissioned functional and decorative pieces round out what Moncler calls a museum-like experience. The brand frames the flagship as a destination for community, discovery and cultural exchange, running a monthly calendar of interactive experiences alongside Fifth Avenue-exclusive products and services.

What is exclusive to the space

Fifth Avenue clients get early access to the second LoveFrom collection, co-created with designer Jony Ive's LoveFrom collective. The bigger debut is Moncler to Measure, a made-to-order atelier offering four pieces in cashmere flannel, silk, leather, suede, shearling and shaggy fil coupe, produced in limited quantities.

Clients can also choose pre-embellished designs, among them pinstripe metal studs, hand-embroidered check motifs, glistening crystals, three-dimensional laser-cut florals and intricate beadwork. Moncler to Measure stays exclusive to Fifth Avenue only until next week, when it also launches at the Moncler Champs-Elysees boutique in Paris on September 15.

The store links to Moncler.com through a dedicated section called 5th Ave on the Go, extending the flagship online through a suite of digital tools. Moncler describes it as a way to access flagship services, including Moncler to Measure, and exclusive product launches such as the second LoveFrom collection, without visiting in person.

Launching first in the United States alongside the flagship, Moncler's AI-powered Outerwear Guide gives clients a curated edit of up to 12 styles matched to their needs. It offers side-by-side product comparisons with AI-generated insights and editorial content covering fit, warmth, materials, craftsmanship and color.

Moncler is also preparing a Virtual Dressing Room for the US market later this year, which combines a client's facial scan with precise body measurements to build a personalized digital avatar. Each garment is then mapped against that avatar's dimensions, reimagining how clients try on outerwear before buying.

Where this fits in New York's flagship wave

The opening lands amid a run of high-profile New York retail debuts we have covered in our coverage of business, from Biologique Recherche's first store in SoHo to Fendi Casa's Paris flagship on Avenue George V, part of a broader pattern of maisons treating flagship openings as cultural statements rather than pure retail.

Moncler built its name on technical mountain outerwear before expanding into a full luxury lifestyle house through its Genius platform, which pairs the brand with outside designers on limited capsule collections. The Fifth Avenue flagship gives that broader identity, spanning ready-to-wear, footwear, skiwear and now made-to-order pieces, a single physical home.

No opening date has been given for the Virtual Dressing Room beyond later this year in the US, and Moncler has not disclosed pricing for the Moncler to Measure pieces. What the atelier's reception in New York and its September 15 Paris debut do for demand is the detail still to be confirmed.
