When we unveiled Luxe Digital's annual ranking of the [most popular luxury brands online](/business/most-popular-luxury-brands/) in 2018, little did we know it would become a reference read by millions across the industry.

We built it because a simple question had no public answer: which luxury brands were actually winning attention online? Eight years later, the question is the same. The front door has moved.

For years, Google was that front door. Today, millions of us are asking an AI assistant directly. Which watch holds its value? Which carry-on survives a hundred flights? Which handbag is worth the waitlist?

And something quietly different happens. You don't get ten blue links and an afternoon of open tabs. You get a short list. Three names, maybe five, delivered with the confidence of a friend who has already done the research.

That short list is the new storefront. The brands on it get considered. The brands that aren't may never enter the conversation at all: not rejected, simply never mentioned.

Naturally, we had to know who is winning, and who is losing.

So we started counting.

## What the Luxury AI Visibility Index measures

Every month, the Luxury AI Visibility Index by Luxe Digital tracks how often the world's leading luxury brands are named by the AI engines people actually use, and publishes the standings in full.

We monitor more than 300 luxury brands across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini. Then we rank them overall, by category, and engine by engine, because a brand that dominates one AI engine can be close to invisible on another.

The Index counts over a million AI mentions a month. The result is a single, comparable measure of something the industry has been guessing at: share of voice in AI search.

Many of the brands at the top share something that has nothing to do with their AI strategy: [years of third-party editorial coverage](/business/why-chatgpt-recommends-your-competitor/) in publications these AI engines trust. Reviews, features, comparisons, buying guides: years of other people writing about them, in places with authority and good reputation.

Language models learn from those. A brand that has been thoughtfully covered for years is simply more present in what the model absorbed, and more likely to be named when someone asks an open question.

It isn't the whole story though. Some of the strongest performers in the Index are digital-first companies barely old enough to have a legacy. That tells you the door isn't closed. But it does reframe what AI visibility is. It's less a channel to be optimized than a reputation to be earned, in public, over years.

## What the Index does not measure

This is a visibility ranking.

A high position means an AI engine names a brand often. It says nothing about whether the leather is full-grain, whether the watch movement is in-house, or whether the thing is worth your money. Those are separate questions, and answering them is the rest of what we do at Luxe Digital.

Read the Index as a map of where attention is going, not a verdict on where it should go.

## How to read the Index

Ranks move for structural reasons, not just competitive ones. Engines update their models, adjust their sourcing, and change how they cite. A brand can gain ten places without doing anything differently. We flag it when we can see it.

Category matters. Some purchases invite long research: a car is compared and financed over months. Others are decided in a boutique in ten minutes. The categories that generate more questions generate more mentions, and the overall table reflects that. [Compare within a category](/rankings/) before you draw conclusions across them.

[Month-over-month movement](/rankings/fastest-rising/) is the signal, because a single edition is only a snapshot. That is why we publish on a fixed schedule rather than when the numbers look interesting.

## Why we built it

The team behind Luxe Digital has covered the luxury industry's digital transformation for over a decade. We watched search rankings decide which brands got discovered. We watched social platforms redraw the same map a few years later.

This shift is faster, and the stakes are steeper. A search results page gives you ten options and lets you judge. An assistant gives you three and recommends what the algorithm believes is best for you.

Brands know this shift is happening. Very few can tell you where they stand. The data has been locked inside agency decks and paid dashboards, priced for enterprise marketing teams and invisible to everyone else.

We think a measure this consequential should be public.

## Editorially independent, and free to use

No brand pays to be included in the Luxury AI Visibility Index, and no brand can pay to move within it. There is no submission process or sponsored tier. Brands are included because they belong in the category, and they rank where the data puts them.

The full ranking is free to read, free to cite, and free to reproduce with attribution and a link back. Journalists, analysts and brand teams are welcome to use it. If you need a breakdown or a data point we haven't published, [write to us](/contact/).

We publish a new edition on the 15th of every month.
